This appendix is going to house what I call "fascinating chemical reactions". Now, understandably, all chemical reactions are fascinating in their way but some (in my opinion anyway) seem to stand out from the crowd, when these reactions are experienced and the reasons for the way in which they work fully explained, they add an extra layer of wonder to the science behind them.

The first one I am going to look at is the "iodine clock reaction", which is a reaction that I first experienced during my teacher training phase.

The apparatus was set up in front of me and the 2 solutions mixed, just before they were mixed I was handed a stopwatch and told to start it as soon as the 2 solutions were in fact mixed. When I asked "what am I looking for" I was told "you'll see it when it happens!". What followed next simply took my breath away!
